Flowers: Black And White Vs Colour

While it is a personal preference, and very much depending on the scene and setting, black and white photography is, overall, my favourite type of photography. Most of the time It gives faces, people, expressions, street photography and many other subjects much more meaning and soul than colour photography. But with some subjects, such as flowers, having so much colour and vibrance, are almost always more appealing when shot in colour. Especially if they are the main focal point of a picture. To me at least. The good thing is, these days, with most cameras and smartphones having built-in editing abilities, you can have the best of both worlds. Take the picture in colour, then, if you want to, just convert / swap it over to black and white. Alternatively, the same can be done with many other effects. Such as vivid, warm, soft, sepia and many more. A quick comparison below.

Purple Roadside Flower Identification

There's been a few purple flowers posted on this blog. The nicest one which can be seen here, and ended up being identified by someone who kindly left a comment. This one is a much different flower, but is, again, one of those flowers that many people see on wasteland, in wooded areas, and at the roadside, but doesn't know what it's called. Well, for this one I found out myself by looking through an old readers digest book all about UK plants and wildlife. Great book. Turns out the flower [pictured below] is called Red Campion [Silene dioica]. Or sometimes referred to as Red catchfly. It's not known to be poisonous to humans, but eating it is not recommended.

Pretty Purple Flower Weed UK

A pretty purple flower growing on waste ground in the UK. I'm not sure if this should be called a weed, because it certainly doesn't look like any weed that I know. But it was growing wild in the middle of nowhere, in quite a baron landscape, so it could very well be. It's definitely a hardy flower. Picture was taken with a Canon IXUS 127 HS. I'm not sure what the name of this flower is, but I just spotted it growing wild in a field (it's hard to miss) so thought I'd take a picture of it. It reminds me a bit of a Sunflower, but it obviously isn't one of those. I bet its a really well-known flower and I'll feel stupid when I find out its name.

Yellow Flower Bud Thorn Bush

This thorny flower bush is widespread in some parts of the UK. I don't know what it's called but it's an excellent bush for decorative and security purposes. No ones jumping over your fence with these on the other side, not without getting into a scuffle with some thorns. They are Sharp! I'm not mad into bushes and flowers or anything but I took some seeds from this bush once, took them home and planted them. This was about 2 years ago, and now two years later it's still alive doing well, but it's remained very small. This bush is very tough and hardy but a very slow grower.
